What should I consider when choosing them?

 If you’ve already had your eye test and chosen the frame that suits you best, you’re just one step away from having your prescription glasses. All that’s left is to choose the lenses, keeping in mind your prescription and the design of your frame.

There are many different options for materials, thicknesses and treatments when it comes to prescription lenses. However, focusing on just two key factors will help you make the right choice:

1. The material: mineral vs organic lenses?

2. The thickness: what index do I need?

Mineral vs organic lenses – what’s the difference?

The first big distinction is the material. Although mineral lenses (true glass lenses) still exist, at Visual-Click we generally work with organic lenses (usually polycarbonate), except in very specific cases. The reason is simple: organic lenses come with clear advantages compared to mineral ones.

Advantages of organic lenses:

• Lighter than mineral lenses

• More durable

• More resistant to breakage, and if they do break, they don’t shatter

• More resistant to sunlight

• Can be tinted in any colour

Advantages of mineral lenses:

• More resistant to scratches

• Suitable for progressive lenses

Which index should I choose?

The ideal lens index mainly depends on your prescription. The higher it is, the thicker the lenses. Not only does this affect aesthetics, but it can also become uncomfortable due to the extra weight. To avoid this, it’s best to reduce their thickness. The higher the index, the thinner the lens. So, which index is best for your prescription?

	ORGANIC LENS - INDEX 1.5 Standard thickness lens, suitable for prescriptions up to +/- 2.50 dioptres.
	REDUCED ORGANIC LENS - INDEX 1.6 Medium thickness, thinner and lighter than standard organic lenses. Recommended for prescriptions between +/- 2.50 and +/- 4.50 dioptres.
	SUPER REDUCED ORGANIC LENS - INDEX 1.67 Very slim edge thickness, making the lens lighter, thinner and more aesthetic. Recommended for prescriptions between +/- 4.50 and +/- 7 dioptres. At Visual-Click, all 1.67 lenses are aspheric, which improves vision and prevents eyes from appearing bigger or smaller.
	SUPER REDUCED ORGANIC LENS - INDEX 1.74 The thinnest and lightest organic lens, up to 60% thinner and lighter than standard ones. Suitable for prescriptions above +/- 7 dioptres. As with 1.67 lenses, these are aspheric to avoid distortions and achieve a more aesthetic look.
